Climate change is hitting Yobe State hard—with droughts, desertification, and extreme weather eroding farmlands, displacing families, and disrupting children’s education, especially for girls. Livelihood losses force many out of school, while damaged infrastructure and health risks deepen the crisis.
With funding from the FIFA Foundation Community Programme, Roadmap for Women and Youth Development implemented the My FIFA Tree Campaign across 8 schools/communities in Damaturu and Potiskum LGAs. We planted hashtag#economic, hashtag#drought-hashtag#resistant hashtag#trees, engaged students and communities in climate education, and promoted school retention—demonstrating that environmental restoration, economic resilience, and education can grow side by side. Together, we are planting hope, protecting futures, and building climate resilience in Yobe State.

In Yobe State, annual temperatures have risen steadily over the past three decades, while rainfall patterns have become up to 37% more variable — driving soil degradation, advancing desertification, and threatening food and water security. According to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, extreme weather events like droughts and floods are becoming more frequent, putting rural livelihoods at severe risk.
As part of RAWYOD’s FOOT-SEED Project, funded by the FIFA Foundation, we are planting trees to restore ecosystems and build climate resilience. Together, we can plant hope, protect our environment, and inspire the next generation. Let’s grow a greener future — one tree at a time.
